International Community
Boarding schools offer strong traditions
of providing educational opportunities
for international students. As worldwide
boundaries become more permeable, families
are increasingly taking advantage of
educational options available to them
in other countries. The boarding school
community today is a mosaic of faces
and places. More than 6,200 international
students attended boarding schools
during the 1999-2000 school year (NAIS
Statistics 2000, Volume 1). Teachers
and students bring with them diverse
ethnic, racial, socioeconomic, and
cultural perspectives while sharing
them in academic and social settings.
Boarding
schools not only value such vibrant
communities, but also actively seek
to create them. In boarding schools, a student’s individual traits, interests,
and heritage are considered valuable assets that enhance and strengthen the overall
community.
International students with varying
degrees of language proficiency will
discover that our schools have many
programs specifically designed for
them. Two things at which our boarding
schools excel are:
- Improving students' proficiency in the English language
- Helping graduates gain acceptance to appropriate colleges and universities.
To learn more about the schools that will best
meet your needs, browse the Boarding Schools Directory or
use the School Search option
to find the school types, programs, courses,
and activities. International students who require English as a Second Language support
can search specifically for schools that offer
that program.
