Once the Application is
Complete...
Once you have confirmed that the schools have received
all application materials and other supporting documentation, you
can relax! It is now time for the Admission Committees to do their
work.
Notification Dates and Decisions
Schools publish their notification dates (notification
dates or reply dates are when their admission decisions are mailed
to families). If you are not aware of the notification date for a
school to which you have applied, feel free to ask. Some schools follow
national dates set by member organizations, and others use regional
dates. Once you receive a letter of acceptance, you will generally
have 30 days to respond. During this time, you may be invited to return
to campus for a second visit, or you may wish to speak with current
students or parents to learn more about the school. To accept an offer
of admission, the parent or guardian is required to sign an enrollment
contract and provide a nonrefundable tuition deposit. Also, be sure
to notify schools in writing if you do not plan to accept their offer
of admission so they can award the space to another student.
Rolling Admission
Many schools offer rolling admission, which means
they will accept applications on a space-available basis throughout
the year or after published application deadlines. This program is
ideal for families who decided to pursue boarding school admission
late in the year, or even during the summer. Simply contact the schools
that interest you to inquire if they have space and are accepting
applications.
What if You're not Admitted?
It is never easy to get bad news. Admission committees
work very hard to select students who are best matched to their school.
Being denied admission at one school does not mean that you should
give up. Each school is different. Just like college applicants who
have narrowed down their search too early in the process, you may
have to reevaluate your priorities and resume the search. If you would
like professional assistance with your search, contact the Independent
Educational Consultants Association.
Whether you are denied admission or put in the wait
pool, it is a good idea to acknowledge the decision in writing and
to thank the school for their consideration. |
