The New York Economy
When you think of New York, you probably think of Wall Street; however, finance is just one of the many industries spread throughout the state. With approximately 20 million residents and a mean annual income of $49,590, the job market in New York is significant.

Exports like diamonds, gold, and artwork have built a profitable trade industry in the state. The recent economic downturn hit the manufacturing and construction industries the hardest, but overall unemployment remains below the national average.

Economic Growth
According to the New York Department of Labor, New York's job market should grow by 6.2 percent (574,000 jobs) between 2006 and 2016. The major industry sectors that experience growth include educational and health services, professional and business services, and construction.
