Associate Programs at Empire CollegeThere are many reasons to earn your accounting degree. Having an accounting degree can help you expand your potential for advancement into supervisory or management positions within a company.
Empire College's accounting degree program is designed to prepare the graduate for a position as a full-charge bookkeeper or junior-level accountant. Cost, financial, and tax accounting are the foundation of this program. The general education classes emphasize critical thinking, human relations, and decision-making skills required of well-qualified accounting personnel. In addition, the program has a strong emphasis on computerized spreadsheets, word processing, and computerized accounting. In keeping with the philosophy of the College, the emphasis in this program is placed on marketable skills.
The IT degree program prepares graduates for positions as systems engineers, network administrators, or computer/network technicians. Concentrations are offered in Microsoft, Security, Cisco, and Linux.
As a Microsoft IT Academy and Microsoft Developers Network Academic Alliance member, Empire College provides Microsoft Official Curriculum that prepares graduates for a variety of certifications including the coveted MCSE. Students gain experience in designing, deploying and administering network infrastructure using Microsoft Windows. In addition, students are introduced to the Linux/Unix operating system, and they learn the basics of Cisco routers, web design and electronic messaging.
As a Security Certified Program Training Partner, Empire College provides curriculum that prepares graduates for the Security Certified Network Professional and Network Architect certifications. Students gain experience recognizing network vulnerabilities and maximizing network security. In addition, students are introduced to the Unix/Linux operating systems including setup, configuration and user management. Students also learn the basics of Cisco, web design and electronic messaging.
Students in the Cisco concentration work with the Cisco Internetworking Operating Systems including setup, configuration and design of Local Area Networks (LAN) and Wide Area Networks (WAN). The student will be able to program Cisco routers and switches; implement TCP/IP addressing, Access Control lists and VLANs (Virtual Local Area Networks); and configure Distance Vector, Link State and Hybrid protocols. Students are prepared to take the Cisco Certified Networking Associate certification exam.
Students in the Linux concentration will be able to implement various Linux platforms and fully deploy their capabilities. This program is designed to provide the student with the fundamental knowledge of the Linux operating system and installation, configuration, basic system management including commands, and X Windows systems emphasizing Red Hat Linux. Students are prepared for the Linux Professional Institute Certified Administrator certification.
Empire College can help you expand your potential for assumption of supervisory or management responsibilities through this multi-disciplined program with concentrations in communications, projects and report preparation, accounting, and all office skills required of highly placed personnel.
Designed to produce an administrative specialist with a variety of computer and communications skills required in the fast-paced executive office, this program concentrates on critical thinking and decision making, human relations, event and meeting planning, word processing, computerized spreadsheets, project and report preparation, and other skills required of well-qualified office personnel. Graduates are prepared for administrative assistant, secretarial, general office, and office assistant positions.
Empire College's medical assistant training can help give you the potential for supervisory or management responsibilities within a medical setting. Our program also provides additional emphasis on communications, critical thinking, human relations, decision making and other skills required of well-qualified medical personnel.
The medical assistant degree program includes extensive instruction in medical terminology, medical insurance billing, medical office procedures, medical clinical procedures, as well as instruction in beginning medical transcription, basic anatomy and physiology, and pharmacology. The emphasis on administrative and clinical skills provides graduates with broad skill sets, making them competitive in today's job market.
In addition, a medical office management class is offered to increase the student's skills in standard management duties and patient information protection and privacy. Students will be instructed in various medical-related software to include data protection and transmission. A 125-hour externship is included to allow students to participate in a series of on-the-job learning experiences and further preparing them for positions as clinical and/or administrative medical assistants in doctors' offices, hospitals, laboratories, and other medical institutions.
Develop legal assisting skills, coupled with general education classes, to expand your potential for supervisory or management responsibility in a legal firm through our paralegal courses.
This program is designed to prepare graduates to assume positions as legal assistants/paralegals, legal secretaries or administrative support staff in a law office. Emphasis is placed on the development of legal office skills such as case management, legal research, discovery, docketing, drafting and analyzing legal documents, and alternative dispute resolution. A 75-hour internship is included.
Individuals who successfully complete the program will receive a certificate of completion from Empire College allowing them to sit for the national certification examination. Upon passing the national examination, graduates are eligible to apply to the State for CPT I certification.
After completing 60 hours of didactic coursework over a 10-week period on campus, students will finish the program with a 40-hour (1 week) externship at Kaiser Permanente or other local laboratory site.
Empire's information technology programs are designed to give students the ability to configure and troubleshoot computer hardware and administer and configure Microsoft networks. In addition, students design Windows infrastructures and active directories, work on Cisco router configuration through Cisco router training, and understand wireless networks and network security.
Graduates are prepared for a variety of certification exams and to assume positions as entry-level network administrators, computer consultants, or computer technicians.
Attain the clinical skills necessary for back office clinical medical assisting positions in doctors' offices, hospitals (laboratories, EKG departments and outpatient areas), private laboratories and other medical institutions. Or learn what you need to know about medical billing, appointment booking, interacting with patients and much more to become a front office medical assistant.
Our medical assisting classes include extensive instruction in medical terminology, medical office procedures, medical insurance billing and basic health care math. Students also take classes in basic anatomy, physiology and pharmacology. In addition to clinical and administrative procedures, students participate in a 125-hour externship.
This program is designed to develop skills used in theory and practice of CPT (procedure codes), ICD-9-CM (diagnosis codes), and HCPCS codes for medical outpatient billing.
In addition to coding procedures, students learn billing software programs, claims reimbursement and various medical-related software for data protection and data transmission. Students completing this course are prepared for insurance billing positions in the health care outpatient industry.
Master the many skills required to establish your career as a legal secretary or legal administrator. Our courses can prepare you to work in legal departments or law offices.
A number of procedures, principles and skills important in law offices are studied. By preparing a variety of legal documents, students master procedures and practical applications to meet the demands of law offices.
This program is designed to prepare the graduate for office duties in careers that require a high degree of initiative. The graduate will gain the skills necessary to fill administrative assistant, secretarial, general office and office assistant positions.
Skills attained in the program include advanced computer applications, desktop publishing, graphics and presentations, in addition to other professional and technical skills necessary to function effectively in today's office. Empire College focuses on marketable skills.
Learn the intricacies of the hospitality, tourism and wine industries. This short-term program provides the student with the necessary skills for three certifications from the American Hotel & Lodging Association: Convention Management and Service, Hospitality Sales and Marketing, and Managing Front Office Operations. There is an emphasis on tour planning, convention sales and service, event planning, California wine industry, California tourism courses, international travel, as well as English. Graduates qualify to work as reservationists, front desk clerks, planners, concierge positions or conference service managers, in addition to numerous other positions in the travel and hospitality industry.

Many believe that no matter what future career they pursue, be it trial attorney or someone trying to change the problems of society, the discipline and critical thinking skills learned while studying law will assist them in their future endeavors.
As an accredited California law school, Empire College School of Law is proud to be among the top California law schools. Since opening in 1973, approximately 80 percent of Empire School of Law graduates who have taken the California Bar Exam have passed. Over the last five years, Empire School of Law has consistently achieved one of the highest pass rates for California Accredited Law Schools, including being ranked second in the state on the February 2004 exam and fifth on the July 2010 exam.
Empire graduates comprise approximately 25 percent of the Sonoma County Bar and include members of the judiciary in Sonoma, Napa, Mendocino, Merced, and Lassen counties. As a local resource, the School of Law has become an integral part of the legal community with many of our students becoming involved in the field as law clerks prior to graduation. This networking has been quite beneficial to their success in passing the Bar Examination, as well as finding employment in the North Bay legal community.
