The Master of Education in Educational Technology Leadership (ETL) degree is designed to prepare educators to proficiently use technology and serve as leaders in integrating technology into the classroom. This curriculum can also accommodate the needs of corporate trainers and other educators outside the academic realm.
The goal of the program is to train students in how people learn and how to best design instructional systems and materials that facilitate learning through technology. Educational technology leaders around the nation are viewed as important problem solvers.
Students are required to complete 36 hours of coursework as outlined in the degree plan. The Internship course (EDLD 5397) is the capstone course and requires that all other courses are successfully completed to enroll. Courses are offered on a rotational basis and not all courses are offered each session. EDLD 5306 and the EDLD 5397 are offered every session.
*Coursework completion is expected in as little as 18 months. Degrees are conferred in May, August and December.

The Master of Education (M.Ed.) in School Counseling is designed to prepare educators who have a strong desire to help students succeed academically and to promote their well-being. School counselors focus their work on positive student development, especially high expectations, achievement motivation, and school engagement. Counselors help to build a caring and positive school climate, promote resiliency, provide support and guidance to students, and involve parents in schooling.
Lamar University’s M.Ed. in School Counseling is a non-thesis program designed to prepare educators to meet the requirements of School Counselor credentialing articulated by national and state standards and the Texas State Board for Educator Certification standards through:
- Developing the knowledge, skills and dispositions for fulfilling the school counselor role
- Building a school community that supports the success of all students
- Facilitating the well-being and development of children and youth in the educational setting
- Delivering a developmental guidance program, intervention services, career planning, individual counseling, and planning based on student needs as well as supporting the educational mission of the school.
Students are required to complete 36 hours of coursework. The internship course is the final course and requires all other courses to be completed to enroll. The Practicum includes a mentor or supervisor being assigned from the student’s district/campus, for a total of 160 hours.
Education requirements vary by state, but a master’s degree is required to become a certified counselor in Texas and most states.

The Bachelor of General Studies is a multidisciplinary degree uniting elements of a general bachelor’s education. Students of this program are provided an opportunity to self-design a personal curriculum and take courses in several areas of interest, resulting in a broad-based education and primed for several unique and challenging career paths. This degree is ideal for the student who prefers not to choose a more rigid degree or highly specialized career path, but who displays interest and curiosity in up to three topics.
The BGS degree is awarded on completion of 120 semester credit hours, including completion of the core curriculum (48), 42 elective hours, and 30 advanced hours. The thirty advanced hours must consist of at least 9 hours in three concentrations. In addition, a minimum 2.0 grade point average is required in all advanced elective coursework as well as a cumulative grade point average of 2.0.
Transfer students: 30 hours must be completed at Lamar University, of which 18 hours must be advanced.

The Preparation Program for ESL (English as a Second Language) Certification provides the skills and tools needed to effectively teach English as a second language. The comprehensive certification program discusses the nature and basic concepts of language systems and patterns and conventions of written and spoken language.
Understanding literacy and the sociocultural aspects of language are studied, as well as lesson planning, materials development, assessment and evaluation. Upon completion, students will also be familiar with the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) and the English Language Proficiency Standards (ELPS).
The Preparation Program for Superintendent Certification is available to applicants with a Principal (or Mid-Management) Certification and one year of practical administrative experience. Students are required to complete 18 hours of coursework as outlined in their degree plan.
Each course includes field-based experiences, problem based learning and action research. Professors are educators with superintendent experience and instruction is based on best practices in online education, is highly interactive and maximizes opportunities for productive participation.
Professional portfolios are developed within the program with continued availability upon completion and candidates are prepared for superintendent certification in Texas. Course content is aligned with the SBEC Superintendent Competencies and 12 hours of this coursework may be applied to the Lamar University doctoral program in Educational Leadership.

The Preparation Program for Principal Certification is available to applicants with a Master of Education degree. Applicants must have two years of practical teaching experience in an accredited school. Principal certification allows teachers to expand their professional development to include school leadership and administrative skills.
