Medical Assisting Programs
Medical Assisting (Associates)
The Associate of Science degree program in Medical Assisting provides students with an academic program that leads to employment as an entry-level Medical Assistant with basic skills in both the administrative and clinical components of an ambulatory health care facility. Graduates of this program should also have the skills necessary to function as phlebotomists, ECG technicians, hospital ward clerks, insurance coders, hospital admissions assistants, and chiropractic assistants. Graduates of the program are eligible to become Registered Medical Assistants and are eligible to take other certification tests in areas such as phlebotomy, EKG, and medical billing and coding.
The Associate of Science degree in Medical Assisting is meant for students who wish to combine the skills of a medical assistant with the benefits of an academic associate of science degree. Emphasis in this program is on patient-centered skills. The associate of science degree program requires a minimum of 90 credits to complete.

The electrical industry is one of the most exciting fields in construction. The Electrical Trades program available at Southern Technical College is designed to provide you with the knowledge and skills you will need to pursue a career in a number of different areas of employment.
With a solid balance of classroom instruction and hands on training, students in the Electrical Trades program will learn to install, upgrade, repair and maintain various types of electrical systems. At STC, our laboratory provides hands on experience for you to learn wiring methods and techniques that simulate real world job conditions.
Graduates from our Electrical Trades program have the skills and knowledge necessary to build a career as an electrician in the residential, commercial, industrial, maintenance and service fields. Our curriculum integrates electrical theory and practical application to give students not only the physical ability to wire and install electrical devices and systems, but also the practical knowledge to design and troubleshoot several applications.

Medical Billing & Coding (Associates)
A Career in Medical Billing and Coding is perfect for those who want a health occupation but want little or no contact with patients, and it prepares them for employment in an occupation that is growing faster than the average. The Medical Billing and Coding Professional maintains a patient?s record of symptoms, medical history, reports of Laboratory tests, diagnoses, and treatments, and codes the medical information for insurance re-imbursement purposes. Medical Billing and Coding Professionals find employment in: Hospitals, Clinics, Physicians' Offices, Home Health Care Services, Urgent Care Centers, Nursing Homes, Residential Care Facilities, and with Insurance Providers.The National Employment Matrix estimates the number of Medical Billing and Coding Professionals is expected to increase by 18% through the year 2016. Reporting the increased number of medical tests, treatments and procedures brought about by the growth of managed care to the Insurance providers, and compliance with Federal legislation that mandates the use of electronic medical records each time a patient receives healthcare, is the major factor for the increased demand for jobs in this sector.
