Famous for its farms, Iowa has developed a strong presence in the agriculture industry since the 1800's. Opportunities in agriculture and related industries are still growing in Iowa despite the struggling national economy. The opportunities include food production, livestock, packaging, and distribution. Agriculture--one of the leading profitable industries--accounted for approximately 27 percent of the state's economy in 2007, with manufacturing representing the next largest sector.

According to the Iowa Department of Labor, computer software engineers, network systems and data communication analysts, home health aides, medical assistants, and pharmacy technicians should enjoy some of the best employment opportunities between 2006 and 2016.
