Louisiana: Working Hard to Promote Industry Growth
Agriculture, manufacturing, natural resources, and shipping are the stalwart industries of Louisiana's economy. Today, Louisiana is one of the country's leading producers of petroleum and is home to just under 10 percent of the U.S.'s oil reserves. In light of the general economic slowdown and aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, Louisiana is working hard to promote growth in new industries to create additional and profitable job markets for the citizens of the Pelican State.
Louisiana Industries to Watch
According to the Louisiana Department of Labor, technology, financial services, health care, and engineering should be some of the leading industries in the job market between 2006 and 2016. For example, there should be 59.8 percent job growth for network systems and data communications analysts, 41.4 percent employment growth for industrial engineers, and 40.6 percent job growth for pharmacy technicians.
