Justin Bieber College Track benefit

by Jeff Goldman | June 8, 2011

The non-profit college preparatory program College Track recently announced plans for a benefit concert featuring Justin Bieber at The Mountain Winery in Saratoga, Calif., on June 11, 2011.

Tickets are available from College Track and through Ticketmaster. Prices start at $250 and go up to $2,000 for premium tickets. All tickets include free parking, access to a pre- and post-concert reception with appetizers, drinks and dessert, as well as a souvenir t-shirt.

"Ouch! How many of his fans can afford that?" asks Hollywood Life's Ian Garland. "But at least Justin has agreed to perform free of charge, and his philanthropy has won him some new celebrity fans--Ashton Kutcher and MC Hammer, who are also supporters of College Track."

"@justinbieber thanks for supporting College Track … You 'Donated' your time, talent and heart. #Class," MC Hammer tweeted on June 3rd.

"Hey @justinbieber proud that you are playing a show for college track. Good on you," Ashton Kutcher wrote on June 5th.

College Track is an after-school college prep program focused on the following four core areas:

  • Academic Affairs reinforces high standards and accountability that enable students to enter college and succeed in life
  • Student Life provides students with the opportunities, resources and tools to explore their passions and constructively engage in their communities
  • College Affairs guides students in all aspects related to college admissions and helps students find college scholarships
  • College Success provides support to college students through academic advising and help finding financial aid

In order to do so, College Track works through direct service delivery to students, partnerships with community based organizations and high schools, and advocacy for educational equity and college access programs.

The organization, founded by Laurene Powell Jobs and Carlos Watson, began working with 27 freshman at Carlmont High School in Belmont, Calif., in September 1997, and now serves more than 550 high school and college students through its centers in East Palo Alto, Oakland, and San Francisco, Calif.
