Advanced EMS and Paramedic Career Training Can Provide Excellent Job Prospects

There are three progressive levels of training: EMT-Basic, EMT-Intermediate, and EMT-Paramedic. While all three prepare you for employment, the EMT-Paramedic level, which culminates in an associate's degree, generally gives you the best job opportunities.

Classes may include emergency skills, including how to assess a patient, cardiac emergencies, and trauma. In some programs, you spend time in an emergency room or ambulance to practice your training. More advanced courses include how to treat airway obstruction, cardiac arrest, emergency childbirth, and fractures. The intermediate level varies more widely among the states and requires anywhere from 30-350 hours of training. In more advanced courses you also learn to administer some medications and intravenous fluids.

Campus-Based and Online Degrees in EMS and Paramedic Fields
You can find EMT-Paramedic training and college degrees through both campus and online-based colleges and schools. Courses typically include advanced medical skills, anatomy, and physiology and typically take 1-2 years. With a more advanced degree or training, you can eventually become a supervisor, a physician's assistant, or even a registered nurse.
