Through their work, educators enable students to grow as individuals and citizens. They help people gain the knowledge they need to be productive members of society, to support themselves and their families, and to engage with the world as critical thinkers. But not all education careers are alike. Some individuals with education degrees become teachers, educating children from pre-kindergarten through high school. Special education teachers focus specifically on teaching young people with learning challenges. Other teachers work in higher education, teaching at the college or university level. Others work with adults in continuing education programs outside formal college or university settings.
